Wellington Senior School and Sixth Form provide excellent, all round education for boarders and day pupils aged 11 to 18.

It is a co-educational school based in the market town of Wellington close to beautiful Somerset countryside, currently with 650 pupils including 160 Sixth Form students.

The school's academic achievements are outstanding. According to the A level league tables, Wellington School is regularly the top performing school in Somerset at A level.

Its rounded education provision and extra-curricular activities are equally impressive – from a first-rate music department to outstanding sports coaching, adventurous trips to a host of stimulating clubs and societies.

"By the time they leave school, pupils' personal qualities are exceptionally well developed." 2011 Integrated Inspection Report

The character of Wellington School today owes much to its history. It was founded as Wellington Academy in 1837 and throughout the twentieth century its national reputation as one of England's leading Independent Schools grew. From 1945, its Direct Grant Status enabled Wellington to respond to local demands for a grammar school education, finally becoming fully independent in 1977 and accepting girls in the following year.

Wellington School today retains the qualities of community and competition of a public school, with a strong house system, breadth of opportunity, and with the Chapel at the heart of the School and of the day. Our boarders, who come from the UK, Europe, the Far East and Africa, add an exciting international dimension so relevant in a world where understanding of other cultures will be a central feature of business and learning in the future. Yet the School has never lost sight of its reputation for providing a high quality, academically rigorous education for local boys and girls and without unnecessary glitz. The friendly, open and practical nature of our students reflects such diversity.
