Sherborne Prep School
About
Sherborne Prep School was first established in 1858 by the Reverend A C Clapin, at that stage a Housemaster at Sherborne School who was asked by the Headmaster, Hugo Harper, to start a junior house. From these humble beginnings the School continued to grow until another Sherborne Housemaster, WH Blake, purchased the current site in 1885 and established the school as a fully independent Prep School.
Today the Prep is thriving. As an independent prep school for girls and boys aged 3 to 13, we enjoy beautiful grounds in Sherborne with the benefits of the surrounding Sherborne Schools. We offer both day and boarding, and also welcome Service families from the Royal Navy, Army and RAF. Whilst not a large boarding school, the children in the boarding houses are the envy of many day pupils who look forward to making use of the flexible boarding on offer. Sherborne Prep has been described by parents "as worth moving house for" and "the best kept secret". We believe that the earliest years of children's lives are the most precious of all and their experiences will shape their future happiness.
Sherborne Prep is seen as one of the leading independent schools in the South West of England and a leader in curriculum change. We are non-selective, and take pride in encouraging all children to enjoy the challenge and excitement of learning. The fact that 38% of pupils go on to their chosen senior schools with scholarships is an important by-product of the quality of education that is offered by the School.
If you are looking for a thriving, buzzy place with a warm, happy atmosphere and impressive academic standards please come and see for yourself what makes our school such a special place.
