Old Buckenham Hall is recognised as one of the leading preparatory schools in the UK. We have tremendous academic results with entry to many of the top public schools in the country. Our pastoral provision is outstanding, our boarding houses are beautiful and our facilities incredible. BUT… what really makes us special is the happiness of our children who bound around our magical setting. With each child having a 1/3 of an acre to play in they can climb the trees, feed the chickens or walk the Headmaster’s dog. If preferred, they can take on the challenge of the rope swings, have a round of golf or explore the big woods. Only an hour and half from London and with a direct train, the only limit is their imagination.
A Childhood to Remember
OBH is everything you would expect from one of the country's leading 13+ Prep Schools over the last 150 years but is also so much more. It is a very special blend of a traditional and modern dynamic education where Swallows and Amazons meet the age of the iPad. OBH is a journey that not only challenges children greatly, it also puts a smile on their faces and gives them lots to talk about when they get home.
A Love of Learning
When you have talented staff who love teaching, lessons are exciting and challenging, and children develop not just an interest in learning but a passion and a love for it. This desire to learn is the reason OBH children are both successful and happy. Whether it is preparation for a scholarship to one of the country's top Public Schools or a pre-prepper mastering the three times table, every child is individually supported to be the best they can be.
Home from Home
From show stopping weekend events such as the Masquerade Ball and the Medieval Banquet to tramping through the school's woods or camping on the island in the middle of the OBH Lake there are always opportunities to play and to learn new skills, but best of all to enjoy laughter amongst friends. Boarders and day children play a full and equal part in a busy and immensely fulfilling day. Those who stay end each day with a big mug of hot chocolate, chatting in lovely, cosy dormitories or settling down with a good book. The exceptional pastoral care provided by the whole staff team ensures each child is supported and nurtured; grows to be confident and resilient; independent and tolerant; respectful and caring.
